Miley Cyrus, aka Hannah Montana, to Sing at PI Lawyer’s Holiday Party

By Debra Cassens Weiss

Yet another famous singer will perform at this year’s annual holiday party hosted by Houston personal injury lawyer Mark Lanier, and any tween guests are likely to be pleased.

Miley Cyrus—who plays Hannah Montana on the Disney Channel—will perform, the Am Law Litigation Daily reports.

Last year Lanier gave out snow globes along with his invitations announcing that his musical guests would be country music stars Brooks & Dunn. This year’s invitation features a pop-up image of Cyrus and promises “Texas Bar-B-Q, Fajitas and Amusements,” the Tex Parte Blog reports.

Party guests are being asked to donate school supplies or money to buy the items for children in Guatemala.

This guy goes hunting with Scalia AND he gets Miley Cyrus to perform at his house?

He’s asking partygoers to bring school supplies and money for Guatemalan students?  Here’s an idea.  Why doesn’t this idiot take the money he’s wasting on a singer at a party and use it for the Guatemalan students himself?

@Nissesq:  Why doesn’t he spend the Miley Cyrus money on Guatemalan students?  Because then Miley Cyrus wouldn’t sing at his Christmas party.

For a lawyer, you’re pretty slow.

Just reading about this made me sick. How grotesque!  I agree with the person who suggested using the money to help those who need it rather than paying a “celebrity” who doesn’t. All he’s looking for is notariety, and he is using a child to do it. No wonder we lawyers have a bad name.

Come on Sally—using that rationale we should all stay home and donate our money to charity.  Have you been to a concert lately?  I think the disdain for this attorney stems from jealously and envy and not from anything rational.  Talk about giving lawyers a bad name.

There is something deeply creepy about hiring an underage singer, whose core audience is 10-16 year old girls, to perform for what presumably is a largely adult audience at a law firm holiday party.

I got one of these invites.

If he can afford Miley Cyrus, I’m sure he’s already donated plenty to the children of Guatemala.

Would anybody be upset with him if the schoolchildren part was left out of it in the first instance?  No.

I guess that’s what you get for trying to do something nice.

To Andy the Lawyer:  The Lanier Holiday Party has traditionally been a family event that is kid-friendly.  No alcohol is served.  Your immediate crticism is a good example of why you shouldn’t “presume” without knowing all of the facts.

I’m a lawyer, and I would love to see Miley Cyrus perform, up close and personal.

I think it is great they are having Miley Cyrus perform (even if she isn’t using her real name).
