Squire Sanders Asks 30 Attorneys and Paralegals to Leave

Despite winning a hefty "bailout love" contract to do work for the U.S. Treasury Department recently, Squire Sanders & Dempsey is laying off 30 lawyers and paralegals.

"We have completed annual reviews of all of our associates and, as a result of that process and with regret have advised some of our associates that they should explore career opportunities elsewhere and we are giving them time to do so. About 30 associates and paralegals will be affected firmwide, including three associates in Phoenix," the firm says in a written statement, according to Above the Law.

The law blog speculates that the more than 850-attorney international firm may be trimming down in an effort to appear more attractive to Seyfarth Shaw as a possible merger partner. Seyfarth has about 750 attorneys in 10 offices in the U.S. and Brussels.
